NADAL, GUARDIOLA AND MORE TO TEE OFFFOR CHARITY IN ‘BATTLE OF THE STARS’ IN MALLORCA

Some of the biggest names in sport and entertainment, including tennis legend Rafael Nadal and football manager Pep Guardiola, will gather at Mallorca’s Pula Golf Resort and Son Servera Golf Club this month to compete in the ‘Battle of the Stars’.

The unique tournament – aiding the fight against ALS - will see celebrities and amateur players team up over two days to take on Pula’s par-72 course, as well as the nearby Son Servera, from June 22-24.

Joining Nadal and Guardiola will be legendary Argentine striker Gabriel Batistuta, Atlético Madrid forward Alvaro Morata and motorcycle champion Jorge Lorenzo, as well as Nadal’s uncle and former coach Toni Nadal.

Some of La Liga’s most popular former players and managers will also tee off to support the battle against ALS, including Guardiola’s former teammate Miguel Angel Nadal, Athletic Bilbao hero Aritz Aduriz, Albert Riera and Julio Salinas. Other football stars include German international Uwe Bein, Javier Clemente, while retired Danish American football player Claus Elming will swap the commentary box for the tee box.

Beyond the world of sport, acclaimed chefs Frank Rosin and Dani García, bullfighter Pepín Liria and actress Verónica Mengod are set to appear at the event, among others.

An acronym for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, ALS is rare and degenerative disease that damages nerve cells and has a progressive impact on voluntary muscle movement. Proceeds from the Battle of the Stars will be donated to research committed to combatting the condition.

Tournament sponsors include Santander Group and Mallorca’s own Cap Vermell Grand Hotel, as well as tourist boards AETIB and Fundació Mallorca Tursime. The star-studded tournament represents another forward step for the Golf East Mallorca brand, a partnership between several of the finest golf venues on Mallorca’s east coast.

Arnau Sala, general manager at Pula Golf Resort, said: “We have always enjoyed hosting stars such as Pep and Pula regular Rafael in the past, so we are looking forward to welcoming them back next month for what is sure to be a fantastic event.

“As always, the course is ready to be in the spotlight as some of the most recognisable faces in sport and entertainment play to support a very worthy cause.”

Pula Golf Resort is no stranger to staging prestigious events, hosting the Mallorca Classic on the DP World Tour (then the European Tour) for five consecutive years from 2003. Two-time Masters champion José María Olazábal completely redesigned the course between 2004 and 2006, elevating what was already one of Mallorca’s most popular layouts into a truly world-class venue.

Alongside the championship golf course, Pula’s picturesque hotel and rustic S’era de Pula restaurant have made it a must-visit for golfers exploring Mallorca. The resort has been nominated in four categories – including ‘World’s Best Emerging Golf Destination’, ‘Europe’s Best Golf Venue’ and ‘Spain’s Best Golf Course’ – at the 2023 World Golf Awards.
