The villages on the Manacor
The villages on the Manacor

If you like cycling routes, you must come to Mallorca and cycle the

Manacor - Artà Green Way

: an itinerary of almost 29 perfectly conditioned kilometres that runs along the old railway line that connected these two municipalities; through the villages of Sant Llorenç des Cardassar, Son Carrió and Son Severa.

Pula Golf Resort

ideal starting point.

. The

Manacor - Artà Green Way

has a number of picnic areas with places for parking bicycles.

If not everything is pedalling and you want to take this route calmly, along the

Manacor - Artà Green Way

route you can stop in the municipalities that make it up, and in this way visit and get to know some of their tourist attractions. These are the most outstanding ones:

Manacor

Manacor

is the third largest city in Mallorca. The city has an interesting cultural heritage, including the Royal Palace, the church of Sant Vicenç Ferrer, and the Towers of Enagistes and Ses Puntes. But it’s also well known for the Coves del Drach, which conceal within them of the largest underground lakes hidden.

Son Carrió

Son Carrió

forms part of the municipality of Sant Llorenç des Cardassar and is known primarily for its traditional pastries and for the church of Sant Miquel. This is not that old, in fact its construction began in 1899. And it was built from the plans drawn up by Father Antonio Maria Alcocer, which were slightly modified by the architects Antoni Gaudí and Joan Rubió. One of the most characteristic elements is its neo-Romanesque façade, accompanied by a four-storey bell tower.

Sant Llorenç des Cardassar

Independent from Manacor since 1892,

Sant Llorenç des Cardassar

has an interesting parish church dedicated to Sant Llorenç, a baroque-style temple with a smooth, wide and sober stone façade; characteristic features of Mallorcan Baroque churches. In summer it celebrates two festivities worth bearing in mind, that of Sant Llorenç (August 10th) and that of Mare de Déu de la Trobada, Our Lady of the Encounter (September 8th).

Son Severa

In

Son Severa

we find s’Església Nova: an unfinished temple that began construction in 1905 from plans drawn up by Rubió Bellver, a disciple of Antoni Gaudí. At this point, el ball de bot, a set of traditional dances from the islands, is usually danced. We also find sa Parròquia de Sant Joan Baptista, built from a defence tower, or Ses Cases de Ca s'Hereu, a valuable example of traditional architecture.

Artà

As the last municipality on the

Manacor - Artà Green Way

, here you’ll find a combination of heritage, nature and tradition. Highlights include the Llevant Nature Reserve, the Regional Museum of Artà, the Village of Ses Païsses or the Navetiforme de S'Arenalet de Son Colom. If you’re interested in archaeology and Talayotic culture, characteristic of the islands, don’t miss

Artà
